NHS offering several summer camps

Several athletic camps have been scheduled to take place at Northview High School during the next two months.

The NHS boys' basketball youth camp will begin Monday and conclude Friday, July 23.

The camp cost is $30 and each additional child will cost half price.

If money is an issue, scholarships are available. Checks may be made payable to Clay Club Basketball.

The camp will take place at North Clay Middle School and participants will receive a shirt along with instruction on fundamentals and skills.

Camp times are the following:

* Grades first and second -- 8:30-9:30 a.m.,

* Grades third, fourth and fifth -- 9:45-11:15 a.m., and

* Grades sixth, seventh and eighth -- 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

Students wanting to participate may register at the camp Monday.

In addition, a Northview youth football camp has been scheduled to take place July 27-30.

This is the eighth county youth football camp orchestrated by current NHS varsity football coach George Gettle.

Camp instruction will be given by the Northview coaching staff as well as current players and guest high school and college coaches.

The camp will be split into two sessions.

Camp times are the following:

* Grades 1-5 -- 8-9:30 a.m. ($30 registration or $40 if registering on the day of the camp), and

* Grades 6-9 -- 10-11:30 a.m. ($40 registration or $50 if registering on the day of the camp).

The first session includes four days of instruction and a camp T-shirt. The second session includes instruction, T-shirt and daily Gatorade.

The NHS varsity volleyball team will also conduct a summer camp Aug. 9-12, for girls currently in grades 5-7.

Cost is $50 per camper for pre-registration. Registration cost the day of the camp will be $60. Only those who pre-register will receive a camp T-shirt.

Camp coaches include NHS varsity coach Scott McDonald, along with junior varsity and freshmen coaches. Middle school coaches and current Northview players will also instruct.

While in camp, participants will receive instruction and practice, serving, passing, setting, hitting and blocking.

There will also be game situation drills along with competition for prizes and explanation of offenses and defenses.
