TERRE HAUTE -- The Wabash Valley Community Foundation, Inc., has earned the 36th spot among the 100 top foundations nationwide for gifts per capita in the 2009 CFinsights Benchmarking Report.
The Foundation's gifts per capita ranking represents a giving rate of $35.78 per individual in its service area of about 154,000 people. The Wabash Valley Community Foundation serves Clay, Sullivan and Vigo counties.
"Often, foundations are evaluated based on asset size," Foundation Executive Director Beth Tevlin said.
"This study looks beyond that to take into account a foundation's unique attributes and challenges. Our ranking certainly attests to the generosity of the individuals in our three counties."
The "Benchmarking Beyond Asset Size" study, sponsored by the Council on Foundations' Community Foundations Leadership Team and conducted by the Columbus Foundation, evaluated community foundations across the country based on overall gift and grant transactions, grants made and gifts received.
