For months now, Knightsville resident Marion "Sarge" Eveland has spearheaded the fundraising drive to help purchase a new mini-van to transport county veterans to area VA facilities.

The goal is to raise $16,000. Currently, fundraising efforts have netted $8,773.75.

While that's pretty amazing, there's still more to go.

Eveland has enlisted the help of the American Legion Post No. 2, the V.F.W. Post 1127, the Brazil Eagles, The Brazil Army National Guard and the family of Marine Cpl. Greg Stultz, who was killed in Afghanistan in February.

Breakfasts, cookouts and sales of bracelets have helped raise the total.

But more is needed.

Eveland has stated there is a September deadline to conclude the fundraising efforts, but recently added the possibility of continuing into 2011 is real.

Another fundraising breakfast has been scheduled to take place this weekend.

The event will take place at the V.F.W. Biscuits and gravy, pancakes and sausage will be served in addition to coffee or orange juice.

The event will take place from 7-11 a.m. Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

The V.F.W. Post is located on Depot Street, Brazil. There is ample parking.

Eveland stated there is still more than $7,000 needed for the new mini-van.

Perhaps it can be explained where that money is and whom is acccounting for it. Lots of words flying around. I have no doubt that Sarge is doing the right thing, but sounds like some others have there own agendas! They should just forget about who is getting credit and do the work. I have, its not difficult. I am done raising money until I can investigate the disposition of the money and the plan for the van, I dont want Sarge getting railroaded or the van to be some political mess.
