According to information provided by the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Donald G. Sutherlin II, 27, was arrested on initial felony charges of possession of marijuana more than 30 grams and maintaining a common nuisance after a traffic stop on County Road 150 West, just north of CR 800 North Friday.
After noticing the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Sgt. Jason Frazier requested K-9 Handler Brison Swearingen and partner K-9 Dayk to perform a search. An undisclosed amount of marijuana was located inside the 1996 Chevrolet truck.
The Clay County Prosecutor's Office was notified and a search warrant was obtained for Sutherlin's residence. During the subsequent search, officers located paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of a schedule 4 controlled substance.
A case file and probable cause affidavit has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review, after which officials believe there could be more charges filed.
Facing a $7,000 cash bond (with no 10 percent allowed), Sutherlin remains incarcerated at the Clay County Justice Center awaiting formal court proceedings.
