Man arrested on multiple allegations

Donald G. Sutherlin II

A Brazil man was recently incarcerated amid allegations of various drug charges, with the potential for more.

According to information provided by the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Donald G. Sutherlin II, 27, was arrested on initial felony charges of possession of marijuana more than 30 grams and maintaining a common nuisance after a traffic stop on County Road 150 West, just north of CR 800 North Friday.

After noticing the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Sgt. Jason Frazier requested K-9 Handler Brison Swearingen and partner K-9 Dayk to perform a search. An undisclosed amount of marijuana was located inside the 1996 Chevrolet truck.

The Clay County Prosecutor's Office was notified and a search warrant was obtained for Sutherlin's residence. During the subsequent search, officers located paraphernalia and an undisclosed amount of a schedule 4 controlled substance.

A case file and probable cause affidavit has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review, after which officials believe there could be more charges filed.

Facing a $7,000 cash bond (with no 10 percent allowed), Sutherlin remains incarcerated at the Clay County Justice Center awaiting formal court proceedings.

  • I've heard of a schedule 2 substance but what is a schedule 4 substance? just curious. . . . .

  • well for everyone information this is a family member of this man and he had only been busted once before this and he didn't get off free for those of you who seem to think that he did. he did his time and it's called money and a lawyer and he completed his probation and why you all are running your mouth about him you all know you wouldn't say this **** to his face. and this man is a father of 2 that takes care of them so worry about yourself if you all had your own life you wouldn't be so interested in his.

    -- Posted by straighttalk2010 on Wed, Jul 21, 2010, at 7:42 PM
  • Straighttalk, let me guess: he's a sweethearted man who would do anything for anyone if they needed it and it's just unfortunate that he got caught. Money and a lawyer; guess that old saying about money talking and sh*t walking is true then.

  • first let me say to all the idiots out there that when he was arrested the fist time he did pay the price & done his bid in jail for that, by no means did he "get off". then for who ever don't know him just let me tell you what kind of man he is & has been. at 14 years old he got a job at the saw mill he done that to help support his family in ther time of need he made sure his brother & sister had Christmas and for several years he worked a job to continue to help take care of them, by the time he was 17 he was working at mansfield stone still supporting his family, he has always worked a job. at 18 &for several years after that he took care of a second family & still threw those years made sure his brother & sister had a good Christmas while taking care of his second family he moved his brother & sister in with him raised them they had food good clothes for school and everthing else they needed. they never went without had the best of everything, he has always been about his family. he still to this day worked a job in fact at PDF. he is a good man despite what anyone thinks, he is a good father to his son & his step son which he supports because his own father don't. it's not like he's a meth maker

or dealer, which we all know brazil is full of. in my eyes he has alwasy been responsible, he had to. he didn't have much growin up and everthing he has he has worked to pay for it. he's never been handed nothing. for the ignorant people that don't know him, maybe u should he's a good man, shame on u for judging him. that's not ur place, only God is to judge. and Donnie will b forgiven.

  • Wether your family or not, does not change what Donny done. I was friends with Donny growing up, good kid when i knew him. Donny went down the wrong path, now he'll pay the price. I pray he learns before its to late.

  • Sorry .. if he paid his dues the first time he was arrested and learned his lesson then .. he wouldn't have been arrested again.

There are a LOT of people out there who don't believe they're doing anything wrong by smoking pot. They figure, "I don't sell it, what's the problem?" Problem is, it's illegal .. and not just 'run a stop sign' illegal .. it's big time illegal.

The law doesn't see life as "Ronnie" sees it (obviously): "You do all of this for your family, your kin, your neighbors and you 'only' smoke pot .. hmmm, the good far outweighs the bad, so we'll let the pot smoking slide." I know many who adapt this warped thought process .. thank Heavens the police do not.

If he is found guilty by a judge and/or jury of his peers, then we have our answer. Doesn't mean you all won't defend his actions any less .. because I'm pretty sure you will, no matter what.

  • How are other people idiots when we are not the ones sitting behind bars again in this case.? Maybe it is because we are the idiots that follow the law and know what is right and wrong. And don't give me this **** he had a hard life because he is not the only one that has it hard in this town or county for that matter. He broke the law again time to make sure he cannot do it again for awhile.

  • in response to hey it's me, it's funny u say that the father of the other little boy is taken care of by his father that's funny I was sure the grandmother done the babysitting while dad is were? the reason they have him is she needs a sitter while she works. I didn't say that his his father didn't love him but anyone can be a father, but he calls Donnie daddy, the daddy that's been there since before he was born. who does support him, because I'm sure 20 bucks his father throws her once in awhile isn't enough to support a 2 year old. thank god he has his grandparents. cos I'm sure they do the most of it.I'm not here for a petty ****** match with anyone, and to clear up one other issue Donnie does NOT do drugs, not even smoke pot. and as far as having that stuff in there home he wouldn't b as stupid to just leave it out in the open he would not hurt his kids. yes they may hurt in their heart because he isnt home with them I'm sure he is missed, by both boys. as far as u sayin it's all about Donnie, although it may be illegal to sell pot maybe it was a way to help support his family, I'm sure that people do all sorts of things to sometimes make ends meet, it's just that we as the public don't know of it. also well put angel

  • Indy by idiots I meant people like u who assume, & that u wrote things u didn't even know the facts before you wrote them. he didn't get off the ONE time he was arrested he did do time in jail also he was on probation for along time had to pay fees of all sorts mr. prosecutor didn't get him no deals. maybe people like you should learn the facts before you make yourself look any sillier. & as far as his life being hard, well indy I just would about bet you had good parents I even bet the kind who bought your first car probably sent you to college. how many nights did you go to bed hungry or cold growin up? did u have to work a mans job at 14 to support your mom dad brother & sister. I'm not sayin what he did is rite or that the way he grew up is an excuse, I'm sayin people do what they have to to get by if it meant peddling alittle pot well he done what he needed to to take care of his family as I said earlier people do all kinds of things to make money to make it in this life it's just that for the most of them they don't get caught so then the public never knows what they do, also I'm quit

positive as I know him as well as I do he won't do this again. but there are those who never learn. and as far as right or wrong I'm pretty sure that in some point in your life you've done wrong just never caught, no ones a saint, not even you.

-- Posted by ddouglas on Fri, Jul 23, 2010, at 6:42 AM
  • ddouglas,

I never claimed to be a saint. And yes I know what it is to work I was working when I was 15 years old and no mommy & daddy did not buy my first car, I did thank you very much. As far as college goes sorry I put myself through college and paying for that education myself. I don't put things on my mommy, daddy or grandparents. So, maybe you should know some facts before you go make yourself look silly. I get out and bust *** making an honest living. So, if he had to do jail time, and be on probation as you say, then he did not learn his lesson now did he? Peddling a little pot is ok. What if he sold pot to your son, daughter, grandchild or to anyone that you love would it still be ok? Why not get a second job if more money is needed? So, you can say what you will. But selling drugs is not right in any shape or form. If you think it is well, who's the idiot now?

    -- Posted by IndyBklyn99 on Fri, Jul 23, 2010, at 10:35 AM
  • I agree with INDY.

Not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouth (raises hand), and (fortunately) we aren't allowed to continually blame our past on the poor decisions we make as adults. This man made a choice.

The more people justify their irresponsible actions the more miserable they become, in my opinion.

Plenty of people have had a hard life growing up, but didn't turn to selling drugs to 'get by'. This wasn't the only option available to provide for his family.

Please, stop making excuses for this guy.

  • You may not be an idiot for sitting behind bars but you are idiots for judging people. Its not your place. I'm sure everyone has that one person in their family that has gotten in trouble? If you sit and say no your lying. So I guess that one person and their parents (either a big crime or small) is an awful person!

-- Posted by lilmomma on Fri, Jul 23, 2010, at 11:37 PM
  • I think its pretty pathetic that you people write on here and keep checking it to see what drama they have started. Have fun talk about people all the while being to scared to say who you even are.

-- Posted by lilmomma on Fri, Jul 23, 2010, at 11:45 PM
  • Well put lilmomma!

Now being said.... I would like to make a comment as to pot! How many people do you know out there driving around killing people while smoking pot?

How many people out there smoking pot, get violent?

Alcohol, now is another story! People are killed every day, from drunk drivers! It is a proven fact that alcohol makes most people turn violent at a certain stage of intoxtication! Not to mention it makes them sick! It kills their liver and damages many other vital organs along the way over time.

Now pot, may affect the lungs, but no more than ciggs, which by the way are legal to buy at the age of 18., and it kills brain cells over time, which also many household and garage and industrial working chemicals also kill the same cells, that most of us are in contact with every day in life.

Yet they legalize the most deadliest and dangerest of the two, and why? The Government would make a lot more money, if they just legalized the two, lower the jail and prison population by many, or just out right illegalize the one thats more dangerous to us all which is ALCOHOL people, it's not POT!

I am by no means, trying to sale the idea, of pot smoking here. I'm trying to make a point of which is more dangerous to our society! People just don't get the BIG picture!

  • Well thank you Blondiesf that makes it all better. Lilmomma, you have opinion and I have mine. I am sure you don't judge people either. Have there not been comments that said he has done this before? So, therefore I do believe that is not being judgmental on my part that is fact.

    -- Posted by IndyBklyn99 on Sat, Jul 24, 2010, at 5:03 PM
  • IndyBklyn99: NO I WAS NOT SAYING IT MAKES IT ALL BETTER! Read! I said I was making a comment! Thank You! Just a comment........ It doesn't make anything he done better by all means. The law is still the law for now.
