The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Meeting moved

For the next four months, the Forest Park Golf Board will conduct its meetings at the Forest Park Golf Course.

The meetings take place at 7 p.m., during the third Monday of each month.

Typically, the meetings take place at Brazil City Hall.

NHS hours

Northview's main office will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 8 a.m.-noon, from June 28-July 26.

Transcripts and work permits may be obtained during these times.

The office will reopen for regular business hours Tuesday, July 27, from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery classes are being conducted Tuesdays, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at First Christian Church.

The 'Cool Spot'

The Brazil Nazarene Church, 1002 E. National Ave., Brazil, will once again offer the Cool Spot.

On weekdays, when temperatures are more than 90-degrees, the church will open its family center from 2-6 p.m., for those looking for opportunities for a cool place to take a load off, have a drink, watch a movie, read a book, play board games and make new friends.

The event is free for anyone needing to cool off.

New Group

A new support group for Autism is being set up in Clay County.

Film scheduled

A film featuring Brenda Schum and her experiences with dyslexia as well as a film featuring a man who kept his dyslexia a secret from his family will be shown at 6 p.m., Thursday, at the Brazil Public Library.

Reunion planned

Survivors of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis during World War II will gather at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Indianapolis from July 29-Aug. 1.

The men will commemorate the 65th anniversary of the sinking of the ship and honor lost shipmates.

Tickets are $75 for the banquet Saturday, July 31. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required by July 10.

Yard Sale

Clay County Search and Rescue has rescheduled its fundraiser yard sale for Saturday, July 31, at 7 a.m., at the station, located at 525 E. National Ave., Brazil.

They will be taking donations for the yard sale.

The pickup day for Eastside Christian Church's Angel Food has been scheduled for Saturday, July 31.

Pickup for Share Food from First Christian Church has been scheduled for Saturday, July 31, at the church.

The food may be picked up from 9-10:30 a.m.


Auditions for the Community Theater of Clay County's "Rumors," will take place Monday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the Lark Theater, 8 E. National Ave., Brazil.


Christmas In The Park will host a free swimming event at the Forest Park Pool.

The event will take place Wednesday, Aug. 4, and is open to the community. It will run from 6-8 p.m.

Free soft drinks and popcorn will be available.

Meeting rescheduled

Due to scheduling conflicts, the Center Point Town Council will conduct its August meeting at 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Center Point Town Hall.

All interested persons are urged to attend.


The House Of Hope will conduct SummerFest Aug. 7.

The event will take place from 4-7 p.m., at the facility, located five miles west of Brazil on United States 40.

Live music will be featured by Soul Patrol and RideTheWind.

There will also be a Bike Cruise-In show by the Unchained Gang and other bikes are welcome.

A barbecue will be offered by the House of Hope.

All are welcome. Those interested in attending should bring their own lawn chairs.

Big Band!

The second Big Band Tribute to Terre Haute's Claude Thornhill will take place at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Indiana Theatre, Terre Haute.

The event will feature music by the Fabulous Forties 17-piece Big Band.

An hors d'oeuvre buffet will be featured prior to the event. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the music starting at 7 p.m.

Retreat Set

Michael Morwood, a presenter on theological issues with more than 30 years experience in retreat, education, parish and youth ministries, will lead a retreat Aug. 8-14, at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Cost of the retreat is $450, which includes room and board. Cost is $325 for commuters.

Registration deadline is July 16, with a $50 deposit due.

Ice Cream!

The 53rd Carbon United Methodist Church Homemade Ice Cream Social will take place from 4:30-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13.

The menu will consist of homemade ice cream, homemade barbecue sandwiches, homemade pimento cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and coney dogs, four different salads, cakes and pies, strawberries and shortcake, with or without ice cream, and drinks.

The event will take place at the Carbon United Methodist Church, located five miles north of Brazil on State Road 59 and one mile east in Carbon.

Picnic Scheduled

The Indiana Farm Bureau District 7 annual picnic will take place Aug. 14, at McCormick's Creek State Park, Spencer.

Activities will begin at 4 p.m., at the Friendly Recreation Building.

Pork chops with all the fixing and homemade ice cream will be served.

Those interested in attending should RSVP to their county office by Aug. 5.

Golf Scramble

The Clay County Humane Society has scheduled the 13th Bill Collins Memorial Golf Scramble for Saturday, Aug. 21.

A shotgun start has been planned for 1 p.m. The event will be played at Forest Park Golf Course.

Cost is $50 per person.

Prizes include the chance to win a Harley Davidson for those who accomplish a hole-in-one.

In addition, the first-place team will receive $400, while the second-place team will earn $200.

A silent auction will also take place.

Those interested in participating should make checks payable to the Clay County Humane Society, PO Box 277, Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Nature Days

The second Nature Days will take place Sept. 11, at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds, from 9 a.m.-noon.

Those attending will be able to search for critters and bugs in the creek, walk the nature trail, learn about edible plants, forestry, lawn and garden questions and answers, bats, make a bird feeder and more.

At 11 a.m., there will be a raptor program, where those attending will be able to visit up close with hawks and owls.

The Clay County Humane Society will sponsor a summer heat Air Fair and Cruise-In from 3-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18.

The event will take place at the field across from the Brazil National Guard Armory.

Food, games, live music, hot air balloon rides, classic cars, trucks and tractors will be on-site.

Cost to enter is $2 or $10 to enter and food.


The Lost Creek Conservation Club will conduct its 2010 .22 Rimfire Rifle Competitions Sunday, Sept. 19, and Oct. 17.

Practice sign-ins will take place from noon-12:15 p.m., with competition beginning at 1 p.m.

All are welcome.

Shotgun spot shoot will take place Sunday, for factory firearms only.
