Food Pantry selects new directors

Sunday, July 25, 2010

To the Editor:

The Clay County Emergency Food Pantry recently selected a new director and an assistant.

Due to the untimely death of Norma Brown and Norma Bunton, the board meeting July 21 appointed Janet Wallace to serve as director with Norma Diehl and Ruth Scioto as assistants.

The Food Pantry has been extra busy in the month of June, having served 52 seniors, 281 children, and 607 adults with 2,706 bags of groceries.

It is the intent to provide clients with food sufficient for one month, although additional food will be provided if the emergency continues.

At least 10 volunteers serve daily at the pantry and at least 25 men and women serve throughout the week.

We are thankful for men who assist as well as younger people from the House of Hope.

The pantry is blessed by donations from the community. The pantry is able to purchase necessary foods and household items.

Food is purchased locally and at Catholic Charities.

The pantry receives financial support from the United Way through the donations of Clay County citizens. Donations can be made directly to the pantry and receipts will be offered.

Donations have been made in the form of services and material goods.

God has blessed the pantry as we desire to be obedient to God's Word in Deut. 15, 7-11.

Thank you Clay County for supporting this ministry.

George T. Hewitt,

Chairman of the board
