Five dinners have been scheduled this summer to coincide with performances by the concert band. The dinners have mimicked the musical theme of each Sunday.
So far, popcorn festival committee members have deemed the project a success.
"We've been really pleased," Vendor Committee co-chairman Rana Hill said. "We have averaged the same number of people (for each dinner).
"Our weather has been so terrible," Hill continued, "but we've still had a good turnout. We've had a lot of compliments, wishing we could do more."
So far, the committee has sponsored a chicken and noodle dinner, lasagna dinner and an Italian Beef Dinner.
This Sunday, the committee will tackle German cuisine.
The menu will consist of Reuben sandwiches made fresh by guest chef Lee Reberger. In addition, corn relish and homemade German potato salad will be available.
Cost for adults is $7.50 in advance, which includes one free dessert. Cost at the door for adults is $7.50 and an additional 50 cents for desserts.
Cost for children 10-under is $4, which includes desserts.
Iced tea and lemonade are also available.
The dinners take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m., each Sunday, prior to the Brazil Concert Band's performance. All dinners take place at the Forest Park Pavilion.
Popcorn festival committee members serve the food, according to Glen Brown, with "Redenbacher smiles, white shirts, black pants, bow ties and suspenders."
Following the dinners, the Forest Park concession stand will open at 7:30 p.m., one half-hour prior to the Brazil Concert Band's performance. All proceeds benefit the Clay County Humane Society.
Following Sunday's meal, there is one more themed dinner planned. The committee has an event scheduled Aug. 29, but the menu has yet to be determined.
Advanced tickets may be purchased at any First Financial Banking center in Clay County, Farm Bureau Co-op Federal Credit Union on State Road 59, Aerial Arts Fireworks, The Brazil Times, or from any festival members.
All proceeds from the dinners support the Popcorn Festival and its programs, including scholarships, Forest Park renovations, and more.
This year's Popcorn Festival will take place Oct. 1-3, at the park. The carnival will begin Sept. 30.
