Arabella Jean Clagg, 87, Newton, Ill., passed away at 5:29 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham, Ill.

Funeral services celebrating Jean's life took place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Central Christian Church, Newton, Ill., with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery, rural Newton, Ill.

Visitation was held 5-8 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Central Christian Church, Newton, Ill.

In loving memory of Jean, memorial may be made to the Jasper County Boys' and Girls' Park Building Fund. Arrangements are in the care of Blake-Wright Funeral Home, Dieterich, Ill.

Jean was born April 29, 1923, in Brazil, the daughter of Stanley and Vada Ellen (Flockhart) Farris.

She married Morris Clagg Oct. 11, 1941. He preceded her in death June 22, 1986.

Jean was employed by E.R. Moore for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. Jean was an avid sports fan and known by many as "ballpark Grandma."

Jean is survived by children Betty (Larry) Goeckner, Dieterich, Ill., James Clagg, Watson, Ill., and Jackie (Rick) Schackmann, Newton, Ill., brother John Farris, Brazil, sisters Barbara Stearley, Brazil, and Susie Crick, Brazil, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter to arrive any day.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Doug Goeckner and brothers Stanley, Bill and Jerry Farris.
