CCSC releases information about upcoming school year

Update

Northview High School Director of Guidance Susan Treash informed The Brazil Times NHS Freshmen Orientation will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12.

In addition, Treash said schedules will be passed out Aug. 17, the first day of school.

Also, beginning Tuesday, any new students needing to enroll may call Northview at 448-2661 to arrange a scheduling appointment.

Soon, the sounds of children playing on the playground will be heard.

The first day of school for teachers in the Clay Community School Corporation for the 2010-11 school year will be Monday, Aug. 16, and for students, Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Teachers will report on Monday, Aug. 16, at Northview High School for a general organizational meeting.

All principals will be on duty in their buildings as of Monday.

For more information, contact the appropriate school with questions concerning specific enrollment dates.

Questions regarding bus transportation may be answered by calling 442-7121.

Questions regarding the LEAAP (Linking Education to Adults, Adolescents and Preschoolers) Center Pre-School program may be answered by calling 446-2536.

Questions regarding Cumberland Academy may be answered by calling 446-4120.

The schedule for enrolling, school visitations, paying textbook rental, etc., for Clay City Jr./Sr. High School, North Clay Middle School and Northview High School is as follows:

* Clay City: Class schedules and other back-to-school information for students in grades 7-12 can be picked up in the main office between 8 a.m.-4 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 4 through Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Any information not picked up by 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, will be mailed. Textbook rental will be collected once all class assignments are finalized.

New students may register in the guidance office Monday-Friday, Aug. 2-12, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Call the school at 939-2154 to schedule an appointment with a counselor.

The counselors will not be available on Friday, Aug. 13, because they will be attending an all-day meeting and on Monday, Aug. 16, during the morning hours because of a faculty staff development day.

A special Grade 7/New Student Orientation Night is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m., in the Auditeria for both students and parents. As a variety of issues will be discussed, all grade 7/new students and parents are urged to attend.

All students except grade 7 will report to their first period classes on Tuesday, Aug. 17. Seventh-grade students will report to the Auditeria.

*North Clay: Students new to the school corporation should contact the office from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., to be enrolled. New students should bring a birth certificate, immunization records and academic information from the previous school.

To be assured everything will be ready for the first day of school new students should enroll today through the end of the day on Friday, Aug. 7.

Schedules for seventh- and eighth-grade students will be distributed on the first day of school.

The sixth-grade Back to School night will be on Aug. 12, from 6-8 p.m.

This will be a very informational evening for parents and student.

Sixth-grade students will receive schedules and locker information at that time.

An Open House for incoming Freshman students will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the auditorium. Freshmen class schedules will be distributed at that time.

Class schedules will be distributed during Home Room Thursday, Aug. 13.

There will be no class schedule changes except to correct a schedule mistake or balance classes as per the policy in the Course Description Booklet. Any student having a scheduling mistake needs to make an appointment by calling Northview.

All other scheduling questions may be answered after school starts by signing up to see a counselor.

Textbook rental will be collected once all class assignments are finalized.

The policy for backpacks and purses has changed beginning with the 2007-08 school year.

Backpacks must be kept in lockers.

Purses can be no larger than the average textbook.

All Pre-school, Kindergarten and students new to Clay Community Schools should also bring a copy of their completed immunization record to school when enrolling.

Breakfast and lunch charges are no longer allowed at the middle or high school level.

For elementary students, three charges will be allowed, but students will be asked to pay for those charges.

Students without money for meals after charges are accumulated will be provided with a peanut butter/jelly sandwich and milk.
