A familiar face will be in charge at Forest Park Elementary.

During a special meeting Monday, the Clay Community Schools Board of Trustees in a 5-0 vote, Dottie King and Tina Heffner were not present, approved the appointment of Debbie Zimmerman as the Substitute Principal from Aug. 2-Sept. 30.

"I am very excited and honored to be the Substitute Principal at Forest Park Elementary," Zimmerman said.

She is a licensed K-12 Principal and has been involved in education for 25 years with approximately 14 years at Forest Park.

Though she will only be in the position for a short time, Zimmerman is looking forward helping everyone become accustomed to the renovated building.

"I hope to set a smooth transition for students, parents and the staff to begin the school year and become acclimated to the building," she said. "The students, teachers and parents will see a newer nicer building, a new cafeteria and new classrooms. Even if all the elements are not finished, the parts that will be completed will be uplifting."

As the first day of school draws closer, Zimmerman is gearing up for a new year.

"Seeing all the students return the first day is wonderful," she said. "There will be some new and exciting things happening this year."

During the meeting, Supt. Dan Schroeder clarified that once the corporation receives information regarding the active duty status of Jon Russell, then he will become Principal at Forest Park Elementary.

There was a question and answer session regarding the start of school and the progress of the construction at the elementary schools. Schroeder confirmed school would start on time.

In other business, the board received bids for the bus garage from Sycamore Engineering for $33,860, Crown Electric for $24,700 and Bay's Electric for $26,895. The board will make a decision during the Aug. 12, school board meeting.
