Church notice

Churches in the Clay County area are encouraged to send information to The Brazil Times regarding addresses and phone numbers for the 2010 Brazil Times' Church Directory.

Basket program

The Clay County Thanksgiving Basket Program is now underway.

Applications for assistance will be available to families in Clay County at Brazil Housing Authority, Clay County Department of Child Services and Family Resources, Hamilton Center and throughout all county schools beginning Aug. 9.

The deadline for submitting an application for Thanksgiving baskets is Oct. 22.

Meeting moved

For the next four months, the Forest Park Golf Board will conduct its meetings at the Forest Park Golf Course.

The meetings take place at 7 p.m., during the third Monday of each month.

Typically, the meetings take place at Brazil City Hall.

Celebrate Recovery

Celebrate Recovery classes are being conducted Tuesdays, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at First Christian Church.

The 'Cool Spot'

The Brazil Nazarene Church, 1002 E. National Ave., Brazil, will once again offer the Cool Spot.

On weekdays, when temperatures are more than 90-degrees, the church will open its family center from 2-6 p.m., for those looking for opportunities for a cool place to take a load off, have a drink, watch a movie, read a book, play board games and make new friends.

The event is free for anyone needing to cool off.

New Group

A new support group for Autism is being set up in Clay County.

Dinner

The V.F.W., 303 S. Depot St., Brazil, will be the site of a Beef Manhatten Dinner today.

The event will take place from 4-7 p.m. Cost is $5.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the Clay County Veterans mini-van fund.

Various items will be auctioned off at the event.

Ice Cream!

The 53rd Carbon United Methodist Church Homemade Ice Cream Social will take place from 4:30-7 p.m., today.

The menu will consist of homemade ice cream, homemade barbecue sandwiches, homemade pimento cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and coney dogs, four different salads, cakes and pies, strawberries and shortcake, with or without ice cream, and drinks.

The event will take place at the Carbon United Methodist Church, located five miles north of Brazil on State Road 59 and one mile east in Carbon.

Breakfast

The Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its monthly breakfast from 7-11 a.m., Saturday.

The menu will consist of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes.

Share Food

Share Food signups at First Christian Church will take place from 9-11 a.m., Saturday.

Pickup for the food will take place from 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, also at the church.

Charity Ride

Bucks House of Color and the American Legion Riders will conduct a Charity Ride for Byron and Lisa Halfhill Saturday.

The ride will help go to pay for medical expenses for both.

It will begin and end at the American Legion Post No. 2, 1015 S. Forest Ave., Brazil. Food will be available at the end of the ride, provided by the Post 2 restaurant.

Registration begins at 10 a.m.

Cost is $15 for a single rider or $20 for a couple. Cars are welcome for $15 per vehicle.

This is an open ride.

In addition, a silent auction will take place and door prizes will be available.

Benefit

A benefit for the Ziemendorf family will take place Saturday.

The event, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., will take place at the V.F.W. Post 1127, 303 S. Depot St., Brazil.

The family lost all of their possessions in a house fire July 16.

A chicken noodle dinner is planned and will begin at 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per plate.

In addition, live entertainment will take place from 7-11 p.m.

Music and Fun

The Clay County Senior Center, 120 S. Franklin St., Brazil, will have a country and western music event Saturday, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Doors open at 6 p.m. All ages are welcome.

Food and drinks will also be available for puchase.

Picnic Scheduled

The Indiana Farm Bureau District 7 annual picnic will take place Aug. 14, at McCormick's Creek State Park, Spencer.

Activities will begin at 4 p.m., at the Friendly Recreation Building.

Pork chops with all the fixing and homemade ice cream will be served.

Food giveaway

The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil, will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, Aug. 21.

The event will take place from 1-3 p.m., at the church.

Golf Scramble

The Clay County Humane Society has scheduled the 13th Bill Collins Memorial Golf Scramble for Saturday, Aug. 21.

A shotgun start has been planned for 1 p.m. The event will be played at Forest Park Golf Course.

Cost is $50 per person.

Prizes include the chance to win a Harley Davidson for those who accomplish a hole-in-one.

In addition, the first-place team will receive $400, while the second-place team will earn $200.

A silent auction will also take place.

Those interested in participating should make checks payable to the Clay County Humane Society, PO Box 277, Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Nature Days

The second Nature Days will take place Sept. 11, at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds, from 9 a.m.-noon.

Those attending will be able to search for critters and bugs in the creek, walk the nature trail, learn about edible plants, forestry, lawn and garden questions and answers, bats, make a bird feeder and more.

At 11 a.m., there will be a raptor program, where those attending will be able to visit up close with hawks and owls.

Cruise-In

Exceptional Living Center, 501 S. Murphy Ave., Brazil, will conduct a Cruise-In, Car Show and Vendor Fair, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11.

There is no charge to enter the event. A trophy will be presented for Best of Show and Dash Plaques will be given out to the first 50 entrants.

In addition, entertainment will be provided by Just Crusin' Mobile DJ services.

Those interested in participating should call to reserve a space today. There are limited spaces available.

Cruise-In

The Clay County Humane Society will sponsor a summer heat Air Fair and Cruise-In from 3-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18.

The event will take place at the field across from the Brazil National Guard Armory.

Food, games, live music, hot air balloon rides, classic cars, trucks and tractors will be on-site.

Cost to enter is $2 or $10 to enter and food.

Competition

The Lost Creek Conservation Club will conduct its 2010 .22 Rimfire Rifle Competitions Sunday, Sept. 19, and Oct. 17.

Practice sign-ins will take place from noon-12:15 p.m., with competition beginning at 1 p.m.

All are welcome.

Shotgun spot shoot will take place Sunday, for factory firearms only.
