Barbara Jean Ellis Cress, loving mother and grandmother, beloved sister and daugher, and life-long friend of many, passed away at the age of 57 in the company of her loving family at her Kentucky home.

Barbara was born in Terre Haute, to Walter and Rita Ellis, where she graduated from Schulte High School and attended Indiana State University.

She eventually received her Bachelor of Science Degree and majored in Gerontology from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, Terre Haute, and worked professionally all of her life in senior health care, with her last position as Director of Nursing at Hickory Creek at Sunset, Greencastle.

Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, reading gardening and many arts and craft projects.

Her favorite travel destinations were Hawaii and Pawley's Island, S.C.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Kara Cress Padgett and husband Micky, Lexington, Ky., her son Nathan Cress and friend Brittany Pals, Milwaukee, Wis., grandson Bryan Woolums and granddaughter Maggie Padgett, Lexington, Ky., mother Rita Ellis, sisters Donna McAllister and husband Jim, Sharon Akers and husband Howard, Linda Persinger and husband Dave, Laura Ahlborn and husband Jim, and Sheila Benson, and friend and former husband David Cress. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention, but always held close to her heart.

Her request is to have only a short memorial gathering of family and friends that will be scheduled in the near future.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
