According to information provided by the Clay County Justice Center, Robert Eugene Shepard III, 36, was served a warrant while in custody at the jail facility on an unrelated matter, while Sarah Sparks was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.
Shepard has been formally charged with class A felony dealing methamphetamine, class B felony possession of methamphetamine, class C felony neglect of a dependent and class D felony maintaining a common nuisance in Clay Superior Court. Attorney Geoffrey Creason has been appointed as defense counsel in the matter. A $10,000 cash bond (with no 10 percent allowed) was established in this case, however, Shepard has to fulfill a separate $5,000 cash bond obligation pending in another matter before he can bond out in this matter.
Both are tentatively scheduled to appear for a jury trial Jan. 10, 2011.
The warrants were issued as part of an ongoing drug investigation, particularly regarding an alleged incident on May 24.
According to a probable cause affidavit on file in Clay Superior Court, Shepard allegedly made arrangements to deliver and sell methamphetamine in an apartment on South Vine Street, Brazil, which is apparently located within 1,000 feet of Forest Park.
During at least one of the transactions, Sparks was allegedly identified as being inside the home with two unidentified juveniles.
Jail officials confirmed that both Shepard and Sparks remain in custody while awaiting further court proceedings.
