The Clay County Thanksgiving Basket Program is now underway.
Applications for assistance will be available to families in Clay County at Brazil Housing Authority, Clay County Department of Child Services and Family Resources, Hamilton Center and throughout all county schools.
The deadline for submitting an application for Thanksgiving baskets is Oct. 22.

Group to meet
The Posey Township Euchre group is in its infancy and has set up two meetings for those interested in playing Euchre during the afternoons.
The plan is to set up games to take place at the Staunton Community Center during Tuesday afternoons, beginning at 12:45 p.m.
There is no age limit for those interested in playing and the games will be open to the public.
Two organizational meetings have been scheduled. The second meeting will take place Aug. 24.
The Moose Lodge No. 780, 239 S. Depot St., Brazil, will conduct a spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m., today, at the lodge.
Cost is $5 and the menu will consist of spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and desserts.
All proceeds will go to benefit the Clay County Veterans mini-van.
In addition, live entertainment will be on-hand as the Country Nomads will perform from 8 p.m.-midnight.
The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil, will conduct a food giveaway Saturday.
The event will take place from 1-3 p.m., at the church.

The Clay County Humane Society has scheduled the 13th Bill Collins Memorial Golf Scramble for Saturday.
A shotgun start has been planned for 1 p.m. The event will be played at Forest Park Golf Course.
Cost is $50 per person.
Prizes include the chance to win a Harley Davidson for those who accomplish a hole-in-one.
In addition, the first-place team will receive $400, while the second-place team will earn $200.
A silent auction will also take place.

In the skies!
The skies above the Brazil-Clay Airport will be filled with radio controlled model airplanes Sunday, as the Brazil Winged Modelers will host the Don May Memorial Air Show to benefit Muscular Dystrophy (MDA).
The event will take place from noon-4 p.m., and will feature some of the best radio control pilots in the Midwest, who will also provide demonstrations.
Refreshments will be available.

The Clay County Chamber of Commerce's monthly meeting and luncheon will take place at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 24.
The speaker will be Heather Penney, regional director with the West Central ISBDC.
The topic will be social media.
The meeting will take place at the St. Vincent Clay Hospital Community Room. Lunch is $7 for members and $10 for non-members.

Soups and sandwiches are on the menu and all are welcome to come to the event.
Share Food Pickup
Pickup for Share Food at First Christian Church will take place from 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, at the church.
The Clay County Search and Rescue, a not-for-profit organization, will conduct a hog roast and cornhole tournament fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Forest Park Pavilion.
Registration begins at 11 a.m., with the tournament starting at 1 p.m.
Cost is $10 per person or $20 per couple with barbecue dinners being served at 2 p.m., at a cost of $5 per plate.
Free entertainment will also be available.
The department will use all proceeds from the event to purchase necessary equipment.
The second Nature Days will take place Sept. 11, at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds, from 9 a.m.-noon.
Those attending will be able to search for critters and bugs in the creek, walk the nature trail, learn about edible plants, forestry, lawn and garden questions and answers, bats, make a bird feeder and more.
At 11 a.m., there will be a raptor program, where those attending will be able to visit up close with hawks and owls.

Exceptional Living Center, 501 S. Murphy Ave., Brazil, will conduct a Cruise-In, Car Show and Vendor Fair, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11.
There is no charge to enter the event. A trophy will be presented for Best of Show and Dash Plaques will be given out to the first 50 entrants.
In addition, entertainment will be provided by Just Crusin' Mobile DJ services.

House of Hope, 5525 W. United States 40, Brazil, will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, Saturday, Sept. 18.
Platters will be served from 8 a.m.-noon.
A $5 donation will cover each person served.
All proceeds will go toward the general needs and bills of the ministry.
A tour and explanation of the programs offered at House of Hope will be available by staff.

The Clay County Humane Society will sponsor a summer heat Air Fair and Cruise-In from 3-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18.
The event will take place at the field across from the Brazil National Guard Armory.
Food, games, live music, hot air balloon rides, classic cars, trucks and tractors will be on-site.
Cost to enter is $2 or $10 to enter and food.
The Lost Creek Conservation Club will conduct its 2010 .22 Rimfire Rifle Competitions Sunday, Sept. 19, and Oct. 17.
Practice sign-ins will take place from noon-12:15 p.m., with competition beginning at 1 p.m.
All are welcome.
Shotgun spot shoot will take place Sunday, for factory firearms only.
