St. Vincent Clay Hospital will lead a community wide effort to educate and highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making.

At 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1, the hospital will present the program, "Who Speaks for You?"

The program will provide information about advance care planning and advance directive forms for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends, and healthcare providers, while executing written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with Indiana state laws.

The goal of the program is that many more people in the community will be informed and equipped to have thoughtful conversations about their healthcare decisions and complete reliable advance directives to make their wishes known.

Advanced planning can lead to fewer families and healthcare providers having to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient.

This also allows healthcare facilities to be better equipped to address advance healthcare planning issues before a crisis and be better able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so.

The speakers for the evening include Dr. Charles French; Karen Iseminger, Ph.D, FNP, Director of Ethics Integration; Paulette Gaskill, RN Case Manager; Jeffrey Boyll, Attorney; and Chaplain Jeff Seger.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by calling 442-2652.
