WEST TERRE HAUTE -- Woods Day Care/Preschool, a sponsored institution of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, has been designated as a Paths to Quality four-star childcare provider.
It is the highest rating the state of Indiana offers for childcare facilities.
Paths to Quality is a program of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration dedicated to supporting the well-being and success of all Indiana children through a statewide system that improves child development and age-appropriate learning experiences, promotes high quality childcare and supports and empowers parents as teachers and decision makers.
"Our staff has done marvelous work this current school year by acquiring Level 3 and Level 4 ratings in Paths to Quality in the same year. We also learned early this year that we received national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. I cannot commend the staff enough for all of the enthusiasm and energy they give to continue to make Woods Day Care/Preschool a center of excellence," Facility Director Sister Judith Cervizzi said.
Woods Day Care is a state-of-the-art facility with six classrooms. It opened in 1987 and moved into its new facility in 2002.
The facility and staff provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for many children of the Wabash Valley, including Vigo, Parke, Vermillion, Clay and Sullivan counties in Indiana and Clark and Edgar counties in Illinois.
Six certified teachers are on staff, along with 15 teachers' aides. A total of 24 paid employees and nine Sisters of Providence volunteers provide a nurturing environment for young children with developing minds and bodies.
The grounds at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods also offer children unique learning experiences through natural surroundings and alpacas that are raised and cared for on the grounds.
The Atrium is a center of energy, providing children with the freedom to run, play, jump, stretch and climb.
Woods Day Care/Preschool is open to children ages 6 weeks to 6-years, and children of all faith traditions.
