Some of northern Indiana's innovative agricultural enterprises will be highlighted during a bus tour Sept. 17-18, sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau.
Called, "The Value-Added Adventure," the tour will last two days and one night, leaving from Indiana Farm Bureau's home office in downtown Indianapolis at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 17, and returning to the same location Sept. 18, in the evening.
It is specifically geared toward farmers and other landowners who want to find a value-added niche market to increase profitability on their land.
"The tour is for you," Indiana Farm Bureau policy specialist and event coordinator Tiffany Obrecht said. "You can explore completely different niche markets and have the opportunity to speak with the producers personally."
The tour is limited to 42 passengers. Registration by Sept. 1 is mandatory. The cost is $75 per person, which includes hotels and meals. Collegiate Farm Bureau members may participate for free. For more information and registration, visit www.newfoodforthought.com.
IFB's co-sponsors for the event are the USDA Farm Service Agency and Farm Credit Services of Mid-America.
Among the farms and facilities to be featured on the tour include Pleasant Acres Farms, Birky Farms, Hensler Nursery, Purple Porch Co-op, Cook Bison Ranch, Satek Winery and Steele Farms.
