SULLIVAN COUNTY -- The Sullivan County Cycle Club (SC3) and the Sullivan County Rotary Club are co-sponsoring the first "Corn Festival Road Tour" of Sullivan County on Sept. 18, 2010. The ride is being held in conjunction with the Sullivan County Corn Festival.
The ride includes routes of 62, 40 and 25 miles through quiet, lightly-traveled roads. The ride begins at the Sullivan County Park and Lake beach house with an escorted group ride to the corn festival parade. The ride then takes cyclists past scenery like the Turtle Creek Reservoir, Merom Bluffs, the town of Carlisle and then ends back at Sullivan Park and Lake.
The entry fee is $20, or $10 for students, with all proceeds going to the Shriner's Hospital for Children and the Rotary International Sullivan Chapter.
Co-founders of the Sullivan County Cycle Club are Chris Norris and Greg Vonfeldt, who are participating in the ride. The SC3 will host a post-ride reception including snacks, beverages, camaraderie and a give-away to one lucky rider.
"Our first Sullivan County Cycling Club (SC3) Corn Festival Road Tour is off to a great start with about 20-25 rider commitments," Norris said. "We're looking forward to sharing a day of riding and camaraderie. Most of all we're looking forward to making donations to the Rotary of Sullivan County and the Shriner's Children's hospitals. We thank the Rotary and other event co-sponsors."
The Sullivan County Corn Festival will take place from Wednesday, Sept. 15 through Saturday, Sept. 18 on the Downtown Square in Sullivan, Ind. Festivities include free music nightly, carnival rides, fair food and multiple vendors to promote a family friendly atmosphere for people of all ages.
