CLAY CITY -- The Clay City volleyball team improved to 5-2 overall with a successful five-game victory over visiting Owen Valley, 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 15-12 on Thursday night.
"I couldn't be more proud of our effort tonight," coach LuAnne Anderson said. "We never gave up and kept playing throughout the entire match. Owen Valley is the first team to take a lot of swings against us, so it was nice to see how our defense would respond."
Lynsey Higgins pounded out a team-high 18 kills and Shelby Hane added 16 kills in the victory.
"Our middle hitters, Lynsey Higgins and Shelby Hane, came up big for us tonight with 18 and 16 kills," Anderson said. "Lynsey also had a great night at the net blocking with eight for the match. Serving remains to be an issue for us. We have got to cut down on our missed serves."
Higgins also had a team-high 13 digs on defense and contributed two aces. Olivia Schindler passed out 12 assists with two digs and two aces and Shaya Stevenson led the team with 14 assists to go with two aces, three blocks and four digs.
