Northview, Clay City receive votes in poll

A preseason poll was officially released Monday evening and both the Northview Marching Knights and Clay City Imperial Regiment received votes.

The poll, located on www.indianamarching.com, releases a preseason poll each year before the beginning of the Indiana State School Music Association marching season.

In Class B, Northview received 120 votes and eight first-place votes to rank first in the preseason poll, followed by Greenwood, Jasper, Goshen, Concord, New Castle Chrysler, DeKalb, Plainfield, Northridge and Bloomington North.

Heading into the 2010 marching season, the Marching Knights have won the past two Class B state titles.

Other Class B bands receiving votes included Floyd Central, Zionsville, North Side, Decatur Central, Greenfield-Central, East Noble, Munster and Whiteland.

Clay City competes in Class D. In the preseason poll, the Imperial Regiment tallied 18 votes, good enough for 14th.

Lewis Cass received 115 votes, including four first-place votes, for the top spot, followed by Forest Park, Springs Valley, North Posey, Monrovia, Paoli, Woodlan, Southridge, Adams Central and Orleans.

Western earned 118 votes and six first-place tallies to place first in the Class C preseason poll, while Avon had 120 votes (all eight first-place votes) to lead the Class A preseason field.

Polls on indianamarching.com will be released this year on Tuesday mornings.

The season officially kicks off Saturday with 10 contests across the state.

The Imperial Regiment will compete in the Franklin Central Invitational, against fellow Class D bands Clinton Central, Taylor and Orleans.

Clay City is set to take the field at 5:37 p.m.

Northview does not compete in the first week of the season.

The Marching Knights will officially begin the season Saturday, Sept. 18, in the Red Pride Marching Invitational at Plainfield High School.

Northview will take the field at 6:54 p.m., and will face competition from Class B bands Zionsville, Bloomington North, Mt. Vernon, Cathedral, New Castle Chrysler, Greenwood and Decatur Central.
