Clay City boys win three-way cross country meet

SULLIVAN -- The Clay City boys cross country team hit the road in preparation for its own invitational on Thursday evening and came away with a three-way meet victory over Sullivan and North Central.

The Eels were paced by Ben Denker's runner-up finish in a time of 17:59 as Clay City scored 25 team points to edge the Thunderbirds' 39 and Sullivan's 63.

Jake Tiefel crossed the finish line in third-place with a time of 18:04 with Austin Sinders in fifth (18:35), Wayne Tharp in seventh (19:27), Blake Cochran in eighth (19:33) and Jesse Vansickle wrapping the top-10 in 20:05. Michael Brooks placed 16th for the Eels in 22:03.

In the girls' race, Sullivan was the winner with 21 points to top North Central's score of 49 and the Eels' 59.

Ashley Sumner took eighth overall in 26:58 followed by Phoebe Farmer in 28:32 with a 10th-place finish. Kayla Sinders placed 12th in 29:23 with Michaela Hogan in 14th-place in 30:22 and Alex Wolfe crossing the line in 32:20 in 15th-place.

The Eels will host the Clay City Invitational on Thursday with seven teams scheduled to compete beginning at 4:30 p.m.
