Knights claim two-of-three at Honey Creek

TERRE HAUTE -- The North Clay volleyball teams came away with two wins in three matches against tough competition at Honey Creek on Wednesday night.

The seventh and-eighth-grade Knights remained unbeaten this season while the sixth-grade lost in a pair of close games to the Bees.

North Clay's eighth-grade won a battle, 25-12, 19-25, 15-12 in its first real test of the season.

Taylor Hess had a huge game for the Knights as she posted nine points, 10 assists and a kill while McKenzi Kumpf dished out four assists and pounded out a team-high eight kills. The Knights offensive attack was firing on all cylinders as Whitney Halfhill added five kills and had two assists and Mikayla Rowan posted three kills and Shea Britton had two. Mannah Mace had a strong all-around game with six points, including two aces, and had three assists and a kill. Deaven McCrocklin rang up two kills and had eight service points and Sydney Buell added four points in the victory.

The seventh-grade squad won in two games, 25-15, 25-9 as Breanna Dove, Morgan Stearley and Ashley Heck each had seven points. Stearley had four aces and a kill while Heck had three aces and Dove tallied one.

North Clay's balanced effort also saw Alyssa Yocom score four points with an ace, Madison McDonald had three points with a kill, Kaylee Cooper added three points with an ace and Faith Wells posted two points. Kaytlin Galloway and Grace Timberman each had one-point apiece.

The sixth-grade squad lost a tough contest, 25-22, 25-22 as Stacy Payton had fie aces and Linzy Lunsford had two aces. Parker Spears had three points and both Chelsea Vanatti and Makenzie Stewart each had two points.

The seventh and-eighth-grade teams are now 5-0 overall.
