SULLIVAN -- The Northview tennis team improved to 7-1 this season by narrowly defeating Sullivan on Thursday night, 3-2.
The Knights' prowess in doubles play helped them earn the team win as Cole Watts and Joey Thomas teamed to defeat Grant Landis and Luke Willis, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
"Joey and Cole really communicated well and never let up on Sullivan," coach Craig Cook said. "I have been stressing our communication to our doubles teams all season long. I was happy to see them work on that part of their game tonight."
The Knights' No. 2 doubles team of Bryce Britton and Sam Miller took a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jake Pirtle and Daniel Lighthizer.
"Sam Miller was very consistent in his play. His ground strokes were as good tonight as they have been all season. I was extremely pleased with his performance," Cook said of Miller's play. "Bryce brought his big serve tonight forcing opponents to really have a difficult time getting it back in play. When Bryce serves like that, the No. 2 doubles team is going to be very successful."
In singles play, Carson Kleiber picked up the lone win for the Knights, claiming a 6-1, 6-3 decision over James Lisman.
"Carson played another tremendous match," Cook continued. "As the match went on his opponent was being very aggressive in his play. Carson stayed within his game and played a terrific match. I was also very happy with both doubles teams and their play."
Sullivan was able to win at No. 2 doubles as Kaleb Pirtle earned a tough, 6-4, 7-6 win against Caleb Mershon and Chris Tryon edged Dillon Reynolds at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
The Knights play in a tournament at Terre Haute North this morning at 9 a.m.
