North Clay volleyball rolls past Vikings

The North Clay volleyball teams swept past West Vigo on Thursday night in straight sets.

The sixth-grade team posted a 25-18, 25-20 decision paced by Kenzie Stearley's eight points and five aces and Samantha Thomas had a four-point, three ace match. Linzy Lunsford had four assists with two kills and Madison Russell, Makenzie Stewart and Stacy Payton each had three service points. Payton also added three assists and a kill.

The seventh-grade Knights won convincingly by a 25-3, 25-6 score as Madison Trusty ran off 15 straight service points in the first game victory. Ashley Heck tallied 10 points and six aces and Breanna Dove posted five points and two aces for the Knights. Alyssa Yocom rang up three points, two aces and contributed two assists as both Gabby Horrall and Madison McDonald had kills. McDonald also had an assist. Morgan Stearley had three points for North Clay with Grace Timberman, Kaytlin Galloway, Zoe Orman and Alex Swaim each adding a point.

North Clay's eighth-grade team knocked off West Vigo by a 25-4, 25-19 count paced by a 21-point effort from McKenzi Kumpf, who also had three aces, seven assists and a kill. Taylor Hess had three kills and two assists, Mannah Mace posted two kills along with Whitney Halfhill, who also had an assist. Mikayla Rowan had three kills to lead the Knights and both Abbey Timberman and Samantha Smith had a kill apiece.

Sydney Buell had five points in the win with two aces and two kills and Madison Nevins posted two assists and four points. Shea Britton added two points with an ace and Deaven McCrocklin had a point.

The seventh and-eighth-grade Knights remained unbeaten at 6-0 this season and host Otter Creek on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
