He was born Aug. 23, 1916, to Elmer Winklepleck and Christine Boore of Clay County. He graduated from Brazil High School in 1934 and attended Purdue University. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 541 in Brazil since 1936, a member of the Elks Lodge of Brazil and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brazil.

He married Helen Salin on Jan. 1, 1944, who preceded him death on Dec. 26, 2005.

He also had one brother, Richard, who preceded him death. John is also survived by other extended family.

He was employed at the Continental Car-Na-Var for several years before joining the Brazil Trust Company. He was at the bank for 17 years before taking a position as a Federal Savings and Loan examiner.

He later was hired as the President of Central Federal Savings and Loan Association, retiring in 1981.

After retiring, he and his wife traveled to all 50 United States and to nine foreign countries.

His wishes were for cremation with no visitation or services and he will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park, which assisted with arrangements.

A special thank you goes out to the nurses, aids and entire staff at Meadows Manor East.

They have gone out of their way to make his almost two years of residency there very nice for both him and his family.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Kid Kare, PO Box 424, Clinton, Ind., 47842.

This organization helps Wabash Valley underprivileged children.
