North Clay sweeps Otters

TERRE HAUTE -- The North Clay volleyball teams came away with a sweep of three volleyball matches against Otter Creek on Tuesday evening.

The eighth-grade Knights improved to 7-0 this season by taming the Otters, 25-12, 20-25, 15-4.

Mannah Mace led the team with a 14-point effort from the service line and had a kill in the victory. Taylor Hess had a big overall game with seven points, nine assists, four aces and a kill while Deaven McCrocklin posted six points with two kills. McKenzi Kumpf added three points, five kills and three more assists and Whitney Halfhill had three kills. Mikayla Rowan added two kills, Sydney Buell had three, Abbey Timberman had three points, two aces and a kill and Gracie Geswein passed out two assists.

In the seventh-grade contest, North Clay cruised to a 25-3, 25-18 victory led by 11 points and six aces from Zoe Orman and Kaytlin Galloway's seven points, two aces, two assists and a kill. Morgan Stearley added six points, three aces and two kills and Madison Trusty had five points, two aces and two kills.

The Knights had a very balanced effort in the win, which was evident in the extensive stat sheet accumulated by the team.

Alyssa Yocom had four points, two aces and a kill, Kaylee Cooper had two points and an ace and both Jordan Mills and Breanna Dove had a point. Madison McDonald chipped in three assists, a kill and an ace and Ashley Heck also had a point.

The Knights also improved to 7-0 this season.

The sixth-grade team boosted its record to 3-3 overall with a 25-15, 24-25, 15-14 victory.

Mackensie Higgenbotham posted seven points for the Knights and Stacy Payton added five points with four aces, four kills and five assists. Samantha Thomas contributed four points and Madison Russell added five points. Kenzie Stearley had three points and three assists in the win, Alisha Long had three points and Indya Trahan had two points. Kerstie Shaw had five assists, two points and a kill and Linzy Lunsford had two assists with a kill.

The Knights will hosts Woodrow Wilson on Sept. 23.
