The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Trash Pickup

The City of Brazil's Sanitation Department is conducting heavy trash pickup on the following Fridays, based on normal trash pickup schedule:

* Oct. 1 -- Monday's trash route,

* Oct. 8 -- Tuesday's trash route,

* Oct. 22 -- Wednesday's trash route, and

* Oct. 29 -- Thursday's trash route.

Heavy trash pickup must be reserved and may be done by calling City Hall at 443-2221 or the Brazil City Street Department at 448-8501.

Meeting date changed

The Harmony Town Council will conduct its Oct. 12, 2010, meeting at 7 p.m., at the Harmony Community Center rather than the first Tuesday of the month.

The meeting will take place in conjunction with the adoption of the 2011 budget.


International vocalist Terry Barber will perform at First Congregational Church, 630 Ohio St., Terre Haute, at 6:30 p.m., today, to benefit "Families By Choice."

Meeting Set

Mike Gentry, Executive Director of the Indiana House Republican Campaign Caucus, will speak at the Clay County Republican Headquarters today.

The headquarters are located at 15 Forest Park Plaza, Brazil.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., and is sponsored by the Clay County Republican Club.


The Clay County Democrat Party will host a speaking and answering questions session at the Staunton Community Center during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Local and state Democratic officials are scheduled to appear.

Refreshments will be served.

Seminar scheduled

A spokesperson from Upromise Investments will be at the Brazil Public Library to conduct a seminar at 2 p.m., Thursday.

The seminar is sponsored by the Valley Investment Group and Upromise Investments, Inc., and will focus on National College Savings Month.

Refreshments will be provided as well as free materials for Indiana's 529 College Savings Plan.

Food Pickup

Share Food pickup will take place from 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday, at First Christian Church.


River Community Church will bless single mothers Saturday at the corner of Vandalia and United States 40.

The church plans to give away free baby items between 10-11:30 a.m.

Food Giveaway

The Church of Our Lord Jesus, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil, will conduct a food giveaway Saturday, from 1-3 p.m.

The Clay County Girl Scouts have scheduled their kickoff from 3-5 p.m., Saturday, at Forest Park across from the park pool.

All girls ages kindergarten through senior year are encouraged to attend and bring friends.

Any girl interested in Girl Scouts are invited with adults.

Games, a bounce house and refreshments will be available.

Dinner Time!

The Wesley Chapel will conduct a spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m., Saturday.

The dinner will include salad, garlic bread, dessert and coffee.

Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 6-under.

Customer Appreciation

The Clay County Farm Bureau Co-op Credit Union will celebrate Customer Appreciation Week Sept. 27-Oct. 1.

The credit union is encouraging residents to come in and signup for a free gift basket giveaway, scheduled for Oct. 1.

Free refreshments will be available throughout the week.


Lunch will be served at the Staunton Community Center from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30.

Soups, Sloppy Joes, hot dogs and Coney dogs will be served, in addition to homemade cakes, pies and brownies.

Prices are reasonable and all proceeds will benefit the center.


Indiana State University, Scott College of Business and Terre Haute Regional Hospital will present the 13th Workers' Compensation Workshop, from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1.

The event will take place at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register by Friday.
