Cory Apple Festival set for weekend

CORY -- The 41st Cory Apple Festival will take place Sept. 24-26.

The event, sponsored by the Cory Volunteer Fire Department and the Cory community, will feature meals at the firehouse, including a hog roast, Jonah Fish Fry and chicken noodle dinner.

Participants are needed for the 1-mile fun run/walk and 5K race, golf scramble at Hoosier Hills, Cornhole Tournament, Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull, car and motorcycle show, Redneck Riding Lawnmower Demolition Derby, Garden Tractor Pull and Parade.

All around the town during the festival, crafts, flea markets, antiques, yard sales and food booths will be on display as well as entertainment, featuring rock, country, folk and Gospel music.

Booth spaces are still available for anyone interested in having a craft, flea market or antique stand. To reserve a spot, call Lana Hendrix at 812-864-2229.

The 1-mile fun run/walk, followed by a 5K race will take place Saturday, Sept. 25. Registration will be from 8-8:30 a.m. The 1-mile will begin at 8:45 a.m., with the 5K starting at approximately 9 a.m.

Early registration is encouraged. Cost is $18 for adults and $10 for children 11-under. Fees include T-shirts and awards.

Hoosier Hills Golf Course will sponsor a golf scramble Saturday, Sept. 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be presented. Call Hoosier Hills to register early at 812-864-2304.

A Cornhole Tournament will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25. Registration will begin at noon.

Saturday, Sept. 25, will also feature a car and motorcycle show. The show will run from noon-4 p.m. Judging will end at 2 p.m., and awards will be presented at 4 p.m. There will be cash drawings taking place every half hour and a DJ will provide music.

Pre-registration is $8. All pre-registers will receive a T-shirt, dash plaque and be entered into a drawing for a free entry for the 2011 show.

The Stanford's Redneck Riding Lawnmower Demolition Derby will take place on the main festival grounds from 1-4 p.m. Registration will be from noon-1 p.m. Anyone interested in participating in the derby must be 18-years-old and bring their own helmet and lawnmower with a $25 registration fee.

There will be cash prizes and trophies. A Women's Powder Puff Derby will also be offered with no entry fee and trophies will be presented to the top three finishers.

The annual parade will take place Sunday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m.
