CLAY CITY -- With unseasonably warm temperatures bearing down on runners in a three-way meet at Clay City on Tuesday night, times weren't much of an indicator of how runners competed.

The Clay City Eels edged a very solid West Vigo boys team, earning the team victory via their sixth runner as the Eels and Vikings tied with 34 points. Northview was third with 56 points.

Jesse Vansickle's 14th-place finish for Clay City was the deciding factor as he finished ahead of West Vigo's Dillon Graves by 36 seconds to pace the Eels' victory.

In the girls meet, Northview got a winning effort from Nicole Nelson in a time of 24:31 to top West Vigo's Acetha Tolerson by 15 seconds. The Knights placed five runners in the top-10 to score 22 points to beat the Vikings' 40 points and Clay City's 66.

The West Vigo boys' first three runners crossed the line as Andrew Kump won the race in 18:33 with Kaleb Blair in second at 18:43 and Nathan Kump placing third in 18:53. The Eels' first runner was Jake Tiefel in fourth-place with a time of 18:57 with Ben Denker in fifth at 19:21 and Austin Sinders placing sixth in 19:29. Northview was paced by Ryan South in seventh-place with a time of 19:44 followed by Travis Beil in eighth in 19:51. Wayne Tharp and Blake Cochran wrapped up the top-10 for the Eels.

Following Nelson across the finish line was Donna Martin in third-place for the Knights with a time of 24:50 and Alyssa Conrad and Kylie McKee finished in a near dead heat at 26:20 in fifth and sixth. Leanna Knight placed seventh with Clay City's Ashley Sumner in ninth with a time of 28:06.

Northview's (from left) Alyssa Conrad, Kylie McKee and Donna Martin each finished in the top-10 in Tuesday's meet at Clay City.
The Knights will get a big test at the Culver Academy Invitational on Saturday with the Eels competing at the Shakamak Invitational Saturday.
