SPENCER -- Consider step one of Northview's list of things-to-do accomplished as the Knights ran off a perfect Western Indiana Conference slate to win the WIC title after defeating Owen Valley on Wednesday evening.

"I was extremely proud of all our kids efforts tonight," Coach Craig Cook said.

Sam Miller was a dominant force at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory against the Patriots' David Deatrick.

"Sam Miller continued his great play with his best performance of the season," Cook said. "Sam was dominant tonight. He played smart and used his weapons tonight like I expect of him."

The results of the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches were a bit more heavily contested as Carson Kleiber battled through an opening 7-6 (7-2) set win and then capped the victory, 6-2, in the second set. Caleb Mershon had a bit of an easier time with Owen Valley's Gabe McHaley, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Joey Thomas was a straight set winner in No. 1 doubles play on Thursday evening.
"Carson fought through a tough first set and then cruised to a two-set victory," Cook said. "Caleb is peaking right now and was so impressive in his victory."

The Northview doubles teams were each straight set victors as Joey Thomas and Cole Watts teamed to win 6-2, 6-0 against Dalton Vest and Corbin Worland. The No. 2 doubles team of Bryce Britton and Garrett Baysinger were 6-0, 6-3 winners.

"Our doubles teams started fast and never let up in posting straight set victories. We are definitely heading in the right direction heading into the sectionals," Cook said. "Winning the WIC was definitely one of our goals this season and to win the conference with a perfect 6-0 record made it even more sweet. I couldn't be more proud of our kids and the work they have put in this year. This group of seniors has been so special to this program. I couldn't have had a better group of kids to work with in my first season as coach. I hope we can continue this momentum next week in defending our sectional title."

The Knights will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Northview Invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
