The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

Trash Pickup

The City of Brazil's Sanitation Department is conducting heavy trash pickup on the following Fridays, based on normal trash pickup schedule:

* Oct. 1 -- Monday's trash route,

* Oct. 8 -- Tuesday's trash route,

* Oct. 22 -- Wednesday's trash route, and

* Oct. 29 -- Thursday's trash route.

Heavy trash pickup must be reserved and may be done by calling City Hall at 443-2221 or the Brazil City Street Department at 448-8501.

K-Day Parade

The annual K-Day Parade will take place Saturday.

This year, the theme is "Celebrating Youth, Celebrating Life."

The lineup will form at 1 p.m., at Depot Street and National Avenue. The parade will officially begin at 2 p.m.

Yard Sale

The Cunot Community Center is currently taking donations for a yard sale coming up in October.

Those interested in donating may drop off items at the center, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Food Pantry Open

The Cunot Community Center Food Pantry is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9-11 a.m.

Those interested in utilizing the pantry must bring identification with current address.

Cub Scout meeting

Children in grades first- through fifth-grade are encouraged to join Clay County Cub Scouts Pack 101.

The group meets regularly on Monday evenings at First Christian Church, 1875 W. United States 40, Brazil. The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

Those interested in joining or wanting more information are encouraged to contact Den Leader Heather Mullenix at 812-201-8296.

Meeting date changed

The Harmony Town Council will conduct its Oct. 12, 2010, meeting at 7 p.m., at the Harmony Community Center rather than the first Tuesday of the month.

The meeting will take place in conjunction with the adoption of the 2011 budget.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Library will conduct their fall sale today and Saturday, as well as Thursday, Sept. 30, Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2.

Times will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday, along with Thursday, Sept. 30, and Friday, Oct. 1.

The sale will run only a half-day Saturday, Oct. 2.

The event will take place across the street from the Brazil Public Library.

The Community Theatre of Clay County will present Neil Simon's "Rumors," today, Saturday and Sunday.

Showtimes are scheduled for 7:30 p.m., each evening.

Doors open at the theater at 6 p.m., with dinner being served at 6:30.

'Beat It For Benny'

The "Beat It For Benny" Mucopolysaccharide (MPS) Walk/Run will take place Saturday, at Deming Park, Terre Haute.

Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m. It is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., and conclude at 1 p.m.

Cheerleaders from the Indianapolis Colts will be at the event in addition to the Dad's Root Beer Race Car. Both organizations will be giving out free giveaways.
