Northview places first at Avon

* Imperial Regiment second in Class D

AVON -- On Saturday, both the Northview Marching Knights and Clay City Imperial Regiment competed in the Avon Meijer Invitational.

The Knights placed first in Class B competition, while Clay City came in second in Class D.

The Marching Knights scored a 73.80 to win the competition Saturday. Greenwood was second at 73.20, followed by Jasper at 73.10, New Castle Chrysler at 70.20, Plainfield at 69.80, Decatur Central at 65.75, Bloomington North at 65.45, Greenfield-Central with a 62.45, and Pendleton Heights with a 60.80.

Northview also won Best General Effect and Best Auxiliary, while Greenwood captured Best Music and Best Visual.

Decatur Central won Best Percussion and Jasper won Best Drum Major.

Clay City scored a 49.45 to place second behind Morristown's 50.30. Clinton Prairie finished third with a 48.65.

The Imperial Regiment won Best General Effect. Morristown captured Best Visual, Best Auxiliary, Best Percussion and Best Drum Major, while Clinton Prairie won Best Music.

Both the Marching Knights and Imperial Regiment will compete in Indiana State School Music Association District events this weekend.

Clay City will take part in the Columbus East Class D District.

The Imperial Regiment is scheduled to compete at 11 a.m., followed by New Washington (11:13), Monrovia (11:26), Southwestern (11:39), Borden (11:52), Crawford County (12:05 p.m.), and Eastern Pekin (12:18).

Awards for Class D will immediately follow.

The Marching Knights will take part in the Class B ISSMA Southport District and are scheduled to compete at 1:10 p.m.

Plainfield will open Class B competition at 12:57 p.m. Whiteland will take the field at 1:23 p.m., and Greenwood is set for 1:36.
