Playing in their final tune-up match before sectional action begins this week, the Northview boys' tennis team won its own invitational on Saturday and also returned former starter, Dillon Reynolds, back from a shoulder injury.

"The guys definitely came ready to play today," coach Craig Cook said. "We had saw that Washington had been having a really nice season and had been putting up some impressive victories so we were really excited in taking four-out-of-five matches with them heads up."

The Knights took championships at four different spots, including both doubles matches to score 29 points, which bettered Washington's 17. Sullivan tallied eight points with new Castle scoring one.

Reynolds came back and teamed with Bryce Britton to win over Sullivan's Grant Landis and Daniel Lighthizer in the first round, 6-1, 6-1. In the championship match against Washington, Reynolds and Britton battled to a 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 victory to earn a title at No. 2 doubles.

"It was great to get Dillon Reynolds back into the line up today," Cook said. "He will be playing No. 2 doubles the rest of the season with Bryce and we think this combination will be very difficult for other teams to deal with."

Not to be outdone, the No. 1 singles team also won a championship as Joey Thomas and Cole Watts won a 6-2, 6-3 match over the Hatchets' Tyler Schnarr and Tyler Stoll.

The Knights picked up a win at No. 1 singles from Carson Kleiber, who defeated Washington's Justin Harner in a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 battle. Caleb Mershon was also a winner, earning a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sullivan's Kaleb Pirtle.

At No. 3 singles, Sam Miller claimed third-place with a 6-4, 6-0 win over New Castle's A.J. York.

"We are full steam ahead heading into the sectionals," Cook said. "Our kids are full of confidence right now and are really looking forward this upcoming week."

The sectional draw will be this evening with play beginning on Wednesday at Northview High School.
