Oran A. Rubeck was born in Owen County to Albert and Nora Rubeck. He attended Jordan, then Cloverdale High School.
Mary Ann is the daughter of Julian John Mikolaitis and Agnes Bostas Mikolaitis, Terre Haute. She went to kindergarten at Demming School. Her family moved to Clay County, where she attended Longnecker School, then Ashboro High School.
Oran and Mary met through Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fritzinger. Louis made plans for Oran to ride in the huckster delivering groceries from house to house. Mrs. Fritzinger made plans for Mary to buy groceries, when the huckster arrived.
Oran and Mary set a date to marry, but on Oct. 1, 1940, Oran stopped by to see Mary, and they decided to get married that day. Off they went to John and Nell Gettle's home, to serve as witnesses. After arriving at the Parish House in Saline City, they were told the reverand was at a wake. After many hours of waiting, Reverand Lashbrook married them at 8 p.m.
During their marriage they owned Rubeck Sawmill.
The Rubeck's are the parents of Ronald and Evelyn Rubeck; Sharon and Joe Swank; and Jerry Rubeck. They are the grandparents of Rhonda and Bob Tincher; Tonnie and Debby Rubeck; Kevin Rubeck; Scott and Carol Swank, Elaine and Jason Bain; Mathew Swank, Sabrina and Mike Youngblood. They have nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
