The North Clay cross country teams got a good evaluation of where they are after a month of workouts as they hosted South Putnam on the Knights' home course at Craig Park.

North Clay's Tyler McNabb (right) placed fourth in 12:46 against South Putnam.

Almost a full four weeks have gone by since North Clay competed at home on Aug. 31 against North Vermillion and South Vermillion.

The results were good as the Knights shaved plenty of time off their efforts from the opening meet of the season and claimed a pair of wins against the Eagles.

The North Clay girls won comfortably with 18 team points to the Eagles' 39.

Emily Conrad and Allie Dupin came across the line as the top two finishers as they did a month ago and both runners took nearly a minute off their previous times.

Conrad finished first against the Eagles (13:39) and was 1:17 faster than her opening meet time with Dupin in second and 20 seconds faster (14:07). Kourtney Johnson repeated as the third-place finisher with a time of 14:21, which was 1:32 faster than against the Falcons and Wildcats. The fourth-place finisher was Isabella Shumaker, who was a whopping three minutes faster with a time of 14:27 against the Eagles. Kaysia Reberger placed eighth in 15:38, which was 1:26 quicker and Chelsey Hines wrapped up the top-10 with her ninth-place finish in 15:48, a total of 2:42 quicker than the first meet.

Josie Stakeman placed 12th (16:15), Julie Weir was 16th (16:53), Caitlin Fairbanks was 17th in 17:01, Cassidy Gardner was 18th (17:20) and Abby Conrad was 23rd in 17:56.

The North Clay boys edged past the Eagles for a five-point win, 25 to 30, paced by Josh Johnson's win in 11:44. Tyler McNabb was fourth in 12:46, which was 1:21 faster than the first meet. Christian Herron crossed the line in fifth with a time of 12:48, more than a minute quicker than his previous time. Gaidj Evans finished in seventh, Dawson Nelson was almost two minutes quicker in 13:06 to place eighth.

Nathan Marshall shaved over four minutes off his time down to a 15th-place in 14:12 and Jason Samm was 21st (15:42), which was two minutes quicker and Caleb Simmons raced to 22nd in 15:44, just under four minutes faster.

The Knights host Owen Valley and South Vermillion at Craig Park on Oct. 5.
