The Alpha Omega Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa met on Aug. 13, at 6 p.m., at Larissa Goshen's house. Hostesses for this month were Larissa Goshen, Christy Casassa, and Meganne Holley. President, Larissa Goshen called the meeting to order, followed by the opening song and verse. Christy Casassa took roll call and read the minutes of the August meeting. The minutes were accepted as read. Mandy Slater gave the treasurer's report.
The treasurer's report was accepted as read. Mandy Slater submitted a bill for $7.14 for the entity report. Mary Yelton made a motion to pay the bill and Michelle Oehler seconded it. Jamie Bell read correspondence. A thank-you card was read from April Lovett thanking Tri Kappa for the food after the birth of her baby. A letter was read from Kathy Modesitt asking for inactive status so she could join another organization. A letter was read from Lisa Metz stating that CASA, LEEAP, and Clay County Extension need to raise $2,000 to bring the "Bridges out of Poverty Workshop" to our area. The money would cover travel expenses, trainer, and the cost of books. Megan Grey made a motion to pledge $50 for expenses and Kristen Beasley seconded it. Another letter was read asking for a donation to help cover expenses for Brylie Wallace to go to nationals after winning a princess contest. Tri Kappa is putting this request on hold for the time being due to the current financial situation.
Standing committee reports were given. Jamie Bell handed out Little Perks. Pam Fischer celebrated a September birthday and Kristen Beasley, Danna Johnson, and Mandy Slater celebrated September anniversaries. Kristen Beasley's name was drawn to receive a brownie for her anniversary. A card is being sent to Kim Carter and Jennifer Cook on the passing of their grandpa.
Project committee reports were given next. Pecan/Nut order forms were passed out and need to be turned in at the October meeting. A reminder that one check needs to be submitted from nut orders to Mandy Slater. The dance was brought up, but no committee members were present to discuss the dance. The home tour was also discussed. Several house options were discussed, but none have been confirmed yet. The literacy project was discussed. Every second grader in Clay Community Schools will receive a chapter book from Tri Kappa. This information will be shared at the Province Convention on the 25th.
Old business was discussed. Annual membership dues of $30 for members and $8 for college students were due at this meeting. A vote was taken for April Lovett to be granted active status in Tri Kappa. Mary Yelton made a motion to grant active status and Vanessa Paullus seconded it.
New business: Chapter by-laws were reviewed by the chapter. A suggestion was made to budget for the cost of cookies that are made for the home tour and food for the dance. A suggestion was also made that we initiate new members twice a year in January and June. Province Convention takes place on Sept. 25 and all officers will be attending. Money was collected at the end of the meeting for a raffle. Michelle Oehler won a Vera Bradley coin purse, earrings, and a notepad. Roberta Weliever reminded members to bring her donations for the raffles at the end of the each meeting.
The closing verse was recited and the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 4, with location to be announced.
