She had a kind heart that shined in all of her actions. Similar to the way she carefully sewed and connected the pieces of fabric that created her beautiful quilts, Joanne passionately stitched together a family that is bound by love and grace.
Joanne was born in Petersburg, Pa., on April 17, 1932, as the daughter of Russel and Kathleen Steele Walker.
She had been married to Thomas Allen for 59 years.
She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Whether it was for a soccer game, band competition, or graduation, she proudly and lovingly supported the people in her life. She was a dedicated Indiana Hoosier football and basketball fan. Joanne loved watching sports.
She was employed for 17 years at Columbia Records in Terre Haute, and had owned and operated Joanne's Machine Quilting.
Joanne is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Edwin Walker, Eleanor Murray, Marjorie Walker, Ellen Tiefel, and Gary Walker, and infant son Andrew Russell Allen.
She is survived by her husband Thomas Allen, son Dr. Steven Allen (Cynthia), daughters Connie Rentschler (Peter) and Cindy Smith (Joe), grandchildren Megan DeMoss (Ben), Andrew Allen, Ryan Smith, Aaron Smith, Annie Smith, Courtney Smith, Neil Rentschler and Ali Rentschler.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, and 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating.
Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery.
