North Clay tunes up for conference meet with win

The North Clay cross country teams earned wins as a tune-up to Saturday's WIC meet at Brown County, defeating South Vermillion and Owen Valley in a three-way meet at Craig Park.

The Knights got individual wins from Josh Johnson (11:50) in the boys' race and Emily Conrad (13:09) in the girls' race. The boys team won with 23 points, placing five runners in the top-seven overall to top the Wildcats' 39 and Owen Valley's 60. In the girls' race, North Clay won with 25 points as Allie Dupin finished second in 13:19.

The girls' team shaved time off from their last home meet with nearly every runner topping their time from Sept. 29.

Conrad dropped 39 seconds and Dupin roared to a time that was 48 seconds better than last week. Isabella Shumaker placed fourth in 13:44, which was 43 seconds faster than the meet against South Putnam. Kourtney Johnson finished seventh in 14:25 and Chelsey Hines placed 11th in 15:38, which was 10 seconds faster. Rounding out the North Clay girls was Kaysia Reberger in 12th with a time of 15:41, Josie Stakeman was 14th in 16:01, which was 14 seconds faster, Julie Weir was 43 seconds faster in a 15th-place time of 16:10. Cassidy Gardner ran 26 seconds quicker in 19th-place (16:54), Caitlin Fairbanks was 20th in 17:08 and Abby Conrad was 35 seconds faster in 21st-place (17:21).

The North Clay boys got a fourth-place from Christian Herron (12:42), Tyler McNabb was fifth (12:48), Cam Trout (12:56) was sixth and Dawson Nelson (13:08) was seventh. Rounding out the Knights were Gaidj Evans in 12th (13:35), Nathan Marshall was 17th in 14:34, Caleb Simmons was a minute faster than last week in 14:44 and Jason Samm was 24th in 16:05.
