DANA, Ind. -- The Ernie Pyle State Historic Site, will be open for seven days during the upcoming Parke County Covered Bridge Festival.

The site will be open Monday-Friday, then again Oct. 14-16. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is $2.

The Friends of Ernie Pyle organization recently signed an interim use agreement for the remainder of 2010 with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and will be operating the site during the Covered Bridge Festival.

The DNR closed the Ernie Pyle State Historic Site earlier this year, citing financial reasons.

The Friends of Ernie Pyle in August expressed its interest to state officials in taking control of the site in some form in 2011.

No final decisions have yet been made on a long-term agreement between the organization and the state, bur Friends officials say they hope to resolve the matter before the end of the year.
