SULLIVAN -- North Clay's seventh-grade football team picked up a 22-16 road victory this week in come-from-behind style.
With time winding down, North Clay's defense had the Arrows pinned at their own one-yard line facing a third-and-13 situation. However, Sullivan broke free around the right side to pick up a first down. The next play, Sullivan turned the ball over when a misplaced toss to the right halfback bounced into the air and was picked off in midair by North Clay defensive end, Brandon Radar. Without missing a beat, Radar cruised into the endzone at the horn for a dramatic North Clay victory.
On offense, Tucker Stewart stood out with his play at the quarterback position and halfbacks, Ben Girton and Luke Kickvar, also were key in the victory. North Clay's line did an outstanding job as well with tackles, Jacob Dean and Brennen Pilman along with guards, Chris Powell and Gavin Johnson and centers, Ethan Fugate and Preston Pinnick making big plays up front.
On defense, Lance Rector at weak safety, linebacker Cale McCoy were standouts and defensive end, Gavin Johnson provided some big hits.
The Knights finish up their season at home on Wednesday, Oct. 12 against Linton at 5:30 p.m.
