IHSAA makes postseason draws for football, volleyball

Sectional draws have been made for football and volleyball teams around the state. The IHSAA Football Sectional draw was made on Sunday evening with the Class 4A Sectional 16 that features Northview High School being one of the toughest in the state.

The Knights (6-2 overall) will hit the road for an opening round match-up at Boonville (1-7). The state's No. 1 ranked team and defending state champion, Evansville Reitz, will face No. 3 ranked Jasper at home in another opening round match-up. The winner of those two games will face each other in a second round battle. Also in Sectional 16 will be Seymour (3-5) facing No. 12 Evansville Central (6-2) on the road with Owen Valley (5-3) hosting Evansville Harrison (1-7).

Other local postseason contests include Zionsville (6-2) traveling to Terre Haute North (4-4) in Class 5A Sectional 6 and No. 14 ranked Brownsburg (6-2) visiting Terre Haute South (2-6). In Class 3A Sectional 21, West Vigo travels to Crawfordsville in the first round.

In the Class 2A Sectional 30, No. 3 ranked North Putnam (8-0) visits South Putnam (5-3) with South Vermillion (0-8) taking on Cascade (3-5) on the road and Cloverdale (4-4) visiting Greencastle (3-5). Tri-West (4-4) visits 2009 state finalist Monrovia (4-4).

The Class A Sectional 40 match-ups include Linton (6-2) visiting Springs Valley (4-4) and Union (Dugger) (1-7) hosting sectional favorite North Daviess (7-1).

Class A Sectional 39 features Turkey Run (0-8) traveling to Rockville (6-2), Riverton Parke (3-5) visiting Attica (4-4) and (No. 6) Fountain Central (7-1) traveling to North Central (3-5).


Volleyball sectional draw

On Monday afternoon, the state's volleyball sectional parings were made as Northview will host Class 4A Sectional 16 and Clay City will travel to the White River Valley Sectional 61.

The Knights (19-12) will take on Mooresville, a team that Northview opened the regular season with and earned a 25-15, 23-25, 25-14, 25-20 win. The other first round match will be between Martinsville and Plainfield.

In the semifinal round, the winners of the first two matches will face the winner of the other first round match, a tilt between Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North.

The Eels get a first round contest with Shakamak with North Central and Union (Dugger) playing the second game. White River Valley received the bye.

Sectional play is slated to take place Oct. 19, 21, 23.
