Knights, Eels both earn votes in poll

Heading into Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Regional week, the Northview Marching Knights remain second among Class B bands according to www.indianamarching.com.

The website's writer's poll from the sixth week of the season -- including the preseason poll -- has Northview in second with 107 votes.

Greenwood remains the top-ranked Class B band in the poll with 117 votes, including six first-place nods.

Until week five, the Marching Knights had been ranked the top band in Class B in the poll, which is released every Monday evening.

Goshen ranks third with 104 votes, including two first-place votes, followed by Jasper (104 votes), Concord (83 votes), Northridge (82 votes), DeKalb (68 votes), Plainfield (62 votes), New Castle Chrysler (57 votes) and Floyd Central (49 votes).

Floyd Central was not ranked in last week's poll. In addition, DeKalb made the biggest jump in the poll this week, moving up from 10th to seventh.

In Class D, after not receiving votes last week, the Clay City Imperial Regiment tallied four votes this week.

The Imperial Regiment had received votes in the poll each week until Oct. 4. Clay City reached as high as 13th in the polls this season.

Lewis Cass remains the top-ranked Class D band with 113 votes (four first-place nods), followed by Springs Valley (113 votes, two firsts), Forest Park (105 votes, two firsts), Paoli (93 votes), Woodlan (87 votes), Orleans (76 votes), Adams Central (68 votes), Southridge (65 votes), North Posey (46 votes), and Bluffton (37 votes).

Both Northview and Clay City will compete in the ISSMA Regional contest at Evansville Central High School Saturday.

Clay City will take the field at 12:31 p.m. There are a total of 18 Class D bands competing at the regional.

Northview will compete against 10 other Class B bands Saturday. The Marching Knights are scheduled to compete at 8:06 p.m.

If both bands receive Gold ratings at the regional, they will advance to the Semistate level, set to take place Saturday, Oct. 23. There are four ISSMA Semistate sites this year, including Ben Davis, Pike, Plainfield and Franklin Community.

The ISSMA State Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at Lucas Oil Stadium.
