School board highlights

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Highlights of Thursday's Clay Community School Board of Trustees meeting included:

* The board voted to table the topic of purchasing vehicles for the specific administrators within Clay Community Schools until more information can be provided by the administration regarding make, model and year of the vehicles,

* Unanimous approval of the seven-semester graduation waiver, early graduate waiver, dual credit and end-of-course assessments.

* A report was provided to board members regarding enrollment figures. The ADM (Average Daily Membership) for CCSC declined 57.28 in the 2010-11 school year compared to the 2009-2010 school year. There are 4,446 students enrolled in Clay Community Schools.

*The board agreed to advertise for the assistant principal position at Northview High School. Jim Clausen has been approved for retirement at the end of first semester in December. The board agreed that by advertising for the position they would leave Cumberland Academy where it is located and Lisa Showalter will remain principal.

The ADM declined by 57.28 students for the entire corporation, in case anybody reads that article and wonders if it is a percentage or notes that the numbers didn't add up with a 57% reduction and that a word or symbol is missing. Someone will probably question how you can have a decimal in a number that counts students so I will explain that for figuring the ADM, kindergarten students are counted as .5 students.
