Many of you know me as "T.J.," since I met and talked with you in the 30 years I worked as window clerk at the Brazil Post Office. I recently retired and decided I would like to continue to work with the Brazil citizens and serve my community as Brazil Township Trustee.
According to the Clay County Auditor's Office, there has not been a Brazil Township Trustee budget submitted to that office since 2008. If I am elected, I will ensure that all budgets and reports are submitted in a timely manner, I will work with the Brazil Township Board to make certain the Township's funds are allocated and used for the benefit of those who need them and I will be certain that all the functions of the office are done with accountability and transparency.
I am a lifelong resident of Brazil, graduated from Brazil High School in 1973 and attended Indiana State University. I served 13 years in the Security Police of the Indiana Air National Guard, receiving the Indiana State Commendation Medal. I am a member of the Terre Haute First Baptist Church, where my wife is the organist. Both of my parents were involved in local politics. My father, Bill Sneddon, ran for sheriff, and my mother, Jean Sneddon, served two terms on the Brazil City Council. My brother, Bill, has owned Heads and Tales Barbershop in Brazil for many years.
My wife, Susan (Randall), two of our grandchildren David and Chris Swearingen, and I live in and own the McGregor House Bed and Breakfast, 503 N. Meridian St., Brazil. Susan is a founder and vice-president of the Community Theatre of Clay County. David, a sophomore, and Chris, a senior, are members of their high school marching bands. We have two sons Rick Swearingen Jr. (Sherri), Naval Petty Officer Zachary Sneddon (Stephanie), and grandchildren Ashley, Richard, Tamera, Cody Swearingen and Che Babb.
I look forward to serving the needs of Brazil Township, and will appreciate your vote on Nov. 2.
