Sectional football wins have been hard to come by for the Northview football program so Friday night's win on the road at Boonville was especially memorable. The Knights, coach George Gettle and his coaching staff, are building something special and the fans/parents in the community have done a tremendous job embracing the squad. Whether it be team dinners, signs in storefronts, billboards or cars, all of the support is invaluable in boosting the awareness of the success of the program. There is something special building here in Brazil in regards to the sports teams and seeing the multitudes of fans in the bleachers supporting these players is something they will remember for a lifetime.
The Brazil Times would like to announce the paper will conduct a contest for those businesses that would like to show off their fandom in support of this Friday's contest against top-ranked and defending state champion, Evansville F.J. Reitz.
The newspaper is looking for the most creative and best looking storefront that shows the support for the Northview football team for the sectional game against the Panthers. We'll be out looking for some great looking businesses out there as well fans who can come up with great ways to show your support for the team this week. We'll be getting some photos at different locations with the winner having their business front on the front page of the newspaper in Friday's edition. We'll also run a photo collection in the same edition of the newspaper as well as online, of others supporting the team as well.
Reitz has a very storied program with multiple championships to its credit and has a rabid fanbase that has requested more than 3,000 tickets to the game on Northview's home turf. While the Panthers have plenty of reasons to make the drive to support their team, Knights' fans should make sure they let everyone know how much they love their program here in Brazil.
Northview has 16 seniors on this year's roster that had never won a sectional game until Friday's 40-7 win against the Pioneers. They certainly aren't looking for it to be their last sectional victory as the Panthers come calling at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Not to be forgotten is the 2003 football season in which top-ranked and unbeaten, Vincennes Lincoln came calling to Northview High School with highly-touted, Curtis Painter, at quarterback. Painter, as everyone now knows, went on to a standout career as the signal caller for Purdue University and was later drafted by the Indianapolis Colts.
After posting an 11-1 record in the 2002 season, the Alices brought a 5-0 record into that Saturday's game against the Knights and Northview dominated from start to finish, claiming a 20-0 shutout victory in an electric atmosphere on the home field in front of an amazing crowd.
Let's see Knights' fans show off their support in the same way all week in preparation for another bout with a No. 1 ranked foe. The 8-2 Knights have plans for a sectional championship of their own this season and it begins with the fans!
NOTE: The Brazil Times will also offer "Best of Luck" Northview Football signs this week during normal business hours of 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
