The Brazil Times launched its final straw poll Oct. 22.

The final non-scientific poll closed officially at noon, Thursday. Voters had a full week to participate in the online poll.

A straw poll or straw vote is a vote with nonbinding results.

Straw polls provide important interactive dialogue among movements within large groups, reflecting trends like organization and motivation.

Voting eligibility in specific districts does not restrict voters. Results are provided as entertainment -- and as an indication of voter opinion for those using The Brazil Times' website.

The final week of polling did not change much compared to the first two weeks, but there were some instances where numbers differed.

In the second poll, for example, Republican Dan Coats had close to a 40-point advantage over Democrat Brad Ellsworth in the race for U.S. Senator. But in this week's poll, that number slipped.

Republican candidate for United States Representative District 8 Larry Bucshon had similar numbers this week over Democrat challenger Trent VanHaaften. However, during the first week of polling, the race was much closer, with Bucshon picking up only 53.8 percent of the vote. Bucshon's polling numbers in the final two polls, however, were in the 60s.

Poll numbers in the race for Indiana State Representative District 44 differed as well.

In the first week, incumbent Nancy Michael (D) and challenger James Baird (R) were only separated by four percentage points. However, Baird has had comfortable leads in the poll for the past two weeks.
