Evelyn M. Nelson, 60, Brazil, passed away at her home Nov. 9, 2010, following difficulties relating to congestive heart failure and diabetes.
She was born July 11, 1950, in Brazil, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Wilson) Walker.
She graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1968 and later attended Ivy Tech, majoring in Accounting and Computer Programming until becoming ill.
She married Johnnie Nelson in 1969. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Evelyn worked at the I-70 Truck Stop as a cashier manager.
She later retired from Kmart in 1998. After retirement, Evelyn became a caregiver for her mother and sisters throughout their illnesses.
In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
She also enjoyed playing cards, brain teasers, and video games with her grandchildren.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Johnnie Nelson, and sisters Sandra K. Walker and Mary Marie LaBaurne.
She is survived by her sons Michael Nelson and Robert Nelson and wife Amber, both of Brazil, grandchildren Justin, Monica "Lexi," Jordan, Danielle, Mackenzie, Lela, Kaitlyn, Robyn, and Zoey, great-grandson Matthew, brothers Willis "Sonny" Walker, Jerry M. Walker and wife Carol, and Howard W. Walker, sisters Phyllis Ann Shaffer and husband Robert, Sharon Jean Michon, Janet L. Walker, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will be at French Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at 11 a.m.
Following the committal service, friends are welcome to join the family at Jackson Gardens Community Room for food and fellowship.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday, from 4-8 p.m.
