She had been a resident of Sycamore Manor for the past year. She was born Aug. 27, 1925, in Clay County, the daughter of Bence and Goldie Harris Robinson. Mrs. Kress graduated from Clay City High School and then completed her teaching degree at Indiana Normal College. She obtained her Master's Degree in Education from Indiana State University.
In 1952, she married Hubert Kress. Sadly, Mr. Kress died in 1967.
Norma enjoyed learning and was a constant student of history and current events, including politics. Her teaching career spanned many years and included teaching at Staunton, Van Buren and Clay City Elementary School. She retired in 1988 from teaching first grade at Clay City. She also tutored students in her home following retirement.
Her memberships included Order of the Eastern Star, Clay City Chapter and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clay City.
Survivors include a nephew Jim Robinson and wife Sue, Florida, sister-in-law, Dorothy Robinson, also of Florida, great-nephew Brad Robinson (Brooke), great-niece Kara Jatoft, great-great nephew Collin Robinson, cousins Bill (Marjorie) Modesitt, Cory, and Wayne Harris, Clay City, and special friend Hugh Cochran.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hubert Kress and one brother Bob Robinson.
According to her wishes, a memorial service will be held Monday, at 7 p.m., at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating. The family requests that no flowers be sent and memorial contributions be directed to the Clay Community School Corp. attention: Clay City Elementary School, 681 N.
