* Christmas In The Park Parade kicks off festivities

The 18th Christmas In The Park Parade will take place Friday, in Brazil.

The event is sponsored by Lynn's Pharmacy.

The parade will kick off a month's worth of festivities for this year's event, which features the theme, "Santa's Workshop."

According to Christmas In The Park officials, approximately 100 entries are set for the parade, from decorative floats to the Northview High School Band.

The lineup for the parade will begin at 5 p.m., north of Vandalia Street. It is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., proceeding west on National Avenue, coming to a close at Depot Street.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be available at the Clay County Courthouse, at no charge, beginning at 5 p.m., Friday.

In addition, fireworks and the annual lighting of Forest Park, are scheduled to take place at 9:20 p.m., with musical accompaniment from WBOW 102.7-FM.

The fireworks will be set off courtesy of Mark Adamson, owner of Aerial Arts Fireworks.

Christmas In The Park officials will also be conducting a food drive the day of the parade. Members of the committee will be walking up and down National Avenue to collect non-perishable food items, which will be donated to local food pantries.

A barrel will be available at the concession stand at Forest Park the evenings that Santa Claus is in the park as well. Also, a barrel will be located at the intersection of National Avenue and Vandalia Street for those who wish to deposit their donations the evening of the parade.

Other items taking place during the month of December include:

* Santa Claus will take up residence at Forest Park beginning Friday for every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until Thursday, Dec. 23. He will be there from 6-8 p.m., during those evenings. Pictures with Santa will be available for $5,

* Breakfast With Santa, 8:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, at the YMCA of Clay County. There is no cost to attend and donuts, juice and coffee will be available. Santa Claus will be there to have his picture taken with children. Christmas crafts and treat bags will also be available. For more information, call 442-6761,

* Christmas Toy Live and Silent Auction, 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11. The event will take place at the V.F.W. Beef Manhattans will be available, as will dessert. Toys may be purchased at the auction and Christmas In The Park officials will see they are donated to families in need, and

* The Christmas Walk, 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18. The log cabins at Forest Park will be open with the "Christmas Story" being read. Caroling will also be performed by various church groups. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served at the pool concession stand,

Another great year for Christmas In the Park !!!! Hopefully there will be a good crowd for the parade and good weather !!!!

Sorry should have been more specific. I want more people at the parade, there are just less people in the block between Depot and Chicago and lots of room that could be used by spectators. In other words... a longer parade. Sorry if I sounded negative, wasnt meant that way. I love the Christmas in the Park Parade!

How wonderful is this event and organization for our community. Things like this are what Brazil needs to continue to improve our city. Yeah for Christmas in the Park!

"Christmas in the Park" and Forest Park in general are a couple things that Brazil can be proud of.

Let us not forget our talented Brazil Concert Band & Maestro Matt Huber as one of our Prized Possessions also! Matter of fact, our community has many Blessings to be thankful for considering our size.

I wish they would have this on Sat. though. I always miss it because I go shopping in Indy with all my family on Fri. I did attend once yrs ago & it was great.

The show was beautiful tonight... but it started at 9:02 not 9:20. Thank you all who are involved with the fireworks. What a blessing it is to get to do this every year with my family.
