Local Student Inducted into Alpha Chi Honor Society

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Miss Abby Birkey, daughter of Allan and Robin Birkey, Brazil, and a 2008 graduate of Northview High School, was recently inducted into the Indiana Gamma chapter of the Alpha Chi honor society at Grace College.

Membership to the Grace College chapter is limited to the top ten percent of the junior and senior classes. The inducted students this year had a minimum grade point average of 3.855.

Alpha Chi is a coeducational national honor scholarship society dedicated to promoting academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honoring students who achieve such distinction. An honor society as opposed to a recognition society, Alpha Chi predicates its membership upon accomplishments rather than mere interest or participation. Its name derives from the initial letters in the Greek words meaning "truth" and "character." The motto of Alpha Chi is "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Grace College is an evangelical Christian community of higher education which applies biblical values in strengthening character, sharpening competence, and preparing for service. The academic, residential, athletic, and social aspects of the college are designed to encourage intellectual and spiritual growth in a supportive campus community. The 165-acre campus is located in the historic resort town of Winona Lake, near Warsaw, Ind. It has historically been among the top schools of its size and listed in U.S. News & World Report as one of America's Best Colleges. The Princeton Review has regularly awarded it the title of a "Best Midwestern College."
